Washington, D.C. , -  The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) Senior Vice President for Policy and Government Relations Aric Newhouse issued this statement today urging the Senate to support Senate Amendment 13, introduced by Senator McConnell (R-KY) to repeal both the 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and health care-related provisions in the 2010 budget reconciliation law:

“Manufacturers support proposals that reduce soaring health care costs, improve the efficiency of the current system and enhance the quality of care. The new health care laws increase costs for manufacturers and are forcing many companies to consider abandoning the generous benefits they currently offer.

We continue to believe that health care reform should be focused on reducing costs through legal liability reform, delivery reform and enhancing competition by allowing employers to purchase insurance across state lines.

Manufacturers remain adamantly opposed to the new laws’ employer mandates, industry-specific fees, Medicare hospital insurance tax increases, reporting requirements, excise taxes and limits on Flexible Spending Accounts – all of which place more burdens on manufacturers and hurt job creation.
Congress needs to start with a clean slate to consider health care reform that will lower costs and improve the quality of care.”

The NAM will consider all votes on Senate Amendment 13 for designation as Key Manufacturing Votes in the 112thCongress.
