Manufacturers: Cut the Red Tape and Approve the Keystone XL Pipeline
A “Year of Action” Must Include the Job Creation and Economic Growth of the Pipeline
In anticipation of the release of the environmental impact statement for the Keystone XL pipeline, National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) President and CEO Jay Timmons urged swift approval and highlighted the growth the pipeline would bring:
“Today the President has the opportunity to adhere to his State of the Union promise to cut the red tape that is slowing down job-creating infrastructure projects. The Keystone XL pipeline is Exhibit A of red tape—and there is no better opportunity to eliminate unnecessary obstacles while growing our economy than approving the pipeline. Manufacturers call on the President to follow through on the promises he made to the nation and approve the Keystone XL pipeline as soon as possible.
Keystone XL would create tens of thousands of jobs, contribute $3.4 billion to our economy and enhance our energy security. The State Department has completed more than 15,000 pages of review of this project over the past five years. The endless cycle of review must end. Every bit of information needed to proceed is at hand. It’s time to grow our economy and create jobs, and approving the Keystone XL pipeline will do exactly that. By following through on his pledge from the State of the Union, the President will send a strong and clear signal to the rest of the world that the United States is open for business.”
