It was quite a year for the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). In addition to launching a complaint alleging that Boeing violated labor laws by locating a new manufacturing facility in South Carolina, the Board aggressively issued new rules and reversed longstanding precedents. After the activism and controversy of 2011, it appeared as if 2012 would give way to inaction. In early January, however, President Obama made three recess appointments to the Board. Will the new Board step back from the aggressive agenda of 2011 and focus on fair, reasonable interpretation of labor laws? Read more in this month’s issue of Member Focus.
