Employee Free Choice Act / Labor Policy
Summary
Manufacturers and their employees rely on fairness and balance in our labor law system. The misnamed Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) – otherwise known as card check – would undermine that balance by radically restructuring labor law and overhauling a system that has served both unions and employers well for more than 60 years. It dramatically shifts power to union leaders and opens the door to government control of wages and benefits in unionized workplaces. The NAM opposes the EFCA because it is a direct threat to global competitiveness and job creation.
Official Policy Position
Labor relations should be conducted in a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect. Since employees, unions and employers all have a vital stake in maintaining workplaces that are productive and competitive, emphasis and resources should be placed on solving problems and resolving issues rather than on conflict and confrontation.
