Manufacturers understand that visible and invisible networks can be considered infrastructure. NAM member companies are increasingly embedding technology into their products, particularly wireless technology and services, to create a diverse array of spectrum-dependent products and systems. These range from heavy construction and farming equipment to the defense industrial base. Manufacturers also make the infrastructure itself, such as fiber-optic cables, the pipes that protect the cables underground and the special drills that create horizontal tunnels for the pipes to pass through. As users of broadband technology, manufacturers leverage smartphones and tablets to track products and inventory and connect with customers and employees. Wireless networks connect all aspects of businesses and products.
