U.S. Trade Deficit Widens as Exports Fall (Washington Business Journal)

“This report continues to show how much manufacturers have struggled from global headwinds through the first five months of this year,” writes Chad Moutray, chief economist for the National Association of Manufacturers.

Exports of manufactured goods are down 4.5 percent compared with the same time a year ago, he noted.

“Manufacturers need policies that help to reduce trade barriers for its products, helping to make our goods more competitive globally,” Moutray writes.

Those policies include new trade agreements, such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership, and reauthorization of the Export-Import Bank, he said.
