Washington, D.C., October 2, 2015 – The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) has awarded the Sandy Trowbridge Award to Eagle Manufacturing Company of Wellsburg, W.Va. The Trowbridge Award honors an NAM member company that demonstrates exemplary leadership in serving its community or state and is a leading example of the nation’s manufacturers and businesses.
“Manufacturers in the United States strengthen our communities in more ways than just making great products and providing high-paying jobs,” said NAM President and CEO Jay Timmons. “Eagle Manufacturing and its nearly 200 employees are showing every day the positive difference manufacturers make in their communities, by participating in service, leadership or volunteerism activities—from educational programs, to little league coaching, to firefighting. All manufacturers—and all Americans—should follow their example.”
Eagle Manufacturing is a family-owned business since 1894 that manufactures industrial safety products. In keeping with Eagle’s mission of Protecting People, Property and the Planet, giving back to the community comes in many forms. Employees volunteer their time, talent and resources on relief efforts as well as their support and engagement within the community, schools and the industry. As examples, they work with local fire departments and the city of Wellsburg to distribute and store fresh water after flooding. After the earthquake in Haiti and Hurricane Sandy in New Jersey, Eagle sent hundreds of its safety cans to aid in relief efforts.
Joe Eddy, president and CEO of Eagle, said it is a great day when a team of dedicated individuals are recognized for representing the values and virtues of such a great man as Sandy Trowbridge. “I am honored to coach the Eagle team and to accept this award on their behalf,” he said.
“One of the great things about Eagle is that although Service Leadership is a core value in our performance standards, this is not the reason our employees serve,” said Eddy. “They serve because helping others is instilled in their hearts to help make a difference in our small community and state, and they do. It is very rewarding to be able to give back to others, and, on behalf of Eagle, we very much appreciate this recognition.”
Eagle has selected the West Virginia Manufacturers Association Educational Fund, Inc. (WVMAEF) to receive the award funds. WVMAEF works to address critical education and workforce issues that affect industry in West Virginia. The WVMAEF and its partners are working to ensure the availability of skilled workers to meet not only current and projected needs of West Virginia’s existing manufacturing base, but also to fill the thousands of potential new jobs that manufacturing and the energy industry will produce in years to come.
The Trowbridge Award is named after Alexander B. “Sandy” Trowbridge, the late NAM president and former U.S. secretary of commerce. Trowbridge was known for his leadership in the manufacturing industry and for his strong commitment to community service.
