NAFTA

The North American commercial market is the most important market for manufacturers in the United States. Over one-third of U.S. manufactured exports are sold just to Canada and Mexico, which purchase more from the United States than our next 10 foreign country partners combined.

Yet the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) was completed more than 20 years ago – before we could access the internet, let alone hold it in our hand, and before major technological and energy innovations helped changed what and how we manufacture here. And we know that barriers and problems continue to exist in both Canada and Mexico that have not been dealt with under NAFTA.
