Manufacturers Need Long-Term Solutions to Our Nation’s Infrastructure Problems

President Should Continue to Focus on the Issue

National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) President and CEO Jay Timmons issued this statement in response to President Obama’s recently released infrastructure proposal:

“Manufacturers appreciate the President’s willingness to lead on infrastructure and are encouraged by his commitment to work with Congress on finding a funding solution for the Highway Trust Fund. The President’s transportation proposal is an important signal for manufacturers who are seeking pro-growth policies from Washington. House Ways and Means Committee Chairman David Camp (R-MI) today also acknowledged the importance of investing in infrastructure in his tax reform proposal.

Manufacturers will study both proposals in the days ahead to ensure that proposed financing mechanisms will not hinder manufacturers’ competitiveness. Manufacturers look forward to working with Congress and the Administration to advance bipartisan proposals that recognize a strong and modern infrastructure system is needed to thrive in today’s global economy.”
