President Trump Makes Good on Keystone XL and Dakota Access Pipeline Promises

Jump-Starts Projects That Could Create Thousands of Manufacturing Jobs

Washington, D.C., January 24, 2017 – National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) President and CEO Jay Timmons issued the following statement on President Donald Trump’s actions on the Keystone XL Pipeline and Dakota Access Pipeline projects:

“President Trump has wasted no time in boosting our manufacturing economy. As I discussed with President Trump in his office last June, building the Keystone XL and Dakota Access pipelines is simply the right thing to do—for working families, for energy security, for job creation and for our future. That is why broad coalitions of businesses and labor groups alike have supported construction.

“The Keystone XL Pipeline will create more than 40,000 jobs, and thanks to the exhaustive analysis conducted by the Obama administration, we know it is environmentally sound. The Dakota Access Pipeline similarly means more jobs, including for manufacturers in Florida, Louisiana, Texas, Missouri, Mississippi, Illinois, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Arkansas and many other states that signed on to supply this project. And the pipeline followed all the right processes for approval, only to be short-circuited by political motivations.

“The president’s actions are exactly the type of change manufacturers voted for in November. This is a signal that this administration is committed to creating the right environment to move forward on important energy infrastructure projects. President Trump has kept his promise with today’s decisions, and they are another clear sign that Washington is open for business.”
