Timmons: Former NAM Board Member Alex Azar a Strong Choice to Lead HHS

Washington, D.C. – National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) President and CEO Jay Timmons released the following statement on the nomination of Alex Azar to serve as Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS):

“Alex Azar served on the NAM Board of Directors, and with his background in government and the private sector, including time at HHS and in the manufacturing industry, he will bring a balanced perspective to the top role at HHS. President Donald Trump has made a strong choice with this nomination.

“Manufacturers are deeply concerned about escalating health care costs and unnecessary compliance and tax burdens resulting from the Affordable Care Act, while expanding and improving coverage. We look forward to the chance to work with Alex, once confirmed, to achieve greater flexibility so that employers can continue to provide benefits employees deserve.

“Manufacturers have a proud tradition of providing quality benefit programs for employees and families. In fact, 98 percent of NAM members offer health care coverage to their employees.

“Health care reform has proven to be a difficult and challenging issue, but Americans can agree that our system is in desperate need of improvement and reform. The NAM is committed to working with HHS, the entire Trump administration and Congress to advance innovative solutions that make it easier—not harder—for manufacturers to provide quality health benefits to our employees.”
